One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful scores highest US chart debut in 14 years

One Direction really are taking over the world!
Fresh from their Best Single victory at the Brits (we’re guessing there are a lot of 1D fans with huuugephone bills), the boys are also making waves in the US. What Makes You Beautiful is the highest US Hot 100 debut for a UK act in over 14 years.
After a flying visit to the States earlier this year, the boys have shifted an impressive 132,000 downloads in the first week of sales according to Nielsen SoundScan, landing at No. 12 on the Digital Songs chart.
The Boys have topped The Verve, who entered the chart at Number 13 with Bittersweet Symphony back in 1998, and the last group UK to enter the chart in a higher position was the Spice Girls in 1997, they debuted at Number 11 with Wannabe. We don’t need to tell you that the Spices went on to be MASSIVE in the US and around the world.
The boys have also recorded a special message for all their fans thanking them for their Brits victory in the publicly voted for Best Single category. Just look them, the over-excited little scamps…
